This is a virtual classroom course delivered by the lead educator. This course explores the key defining attributes relating to what excellent and effective dementia care nursing should consist of. The course challenges perceptions and attitudes of how people with dementia are seen and enable leaders to go back to the basics of person centred theories. The course examines this within the context of dignity, respect, rights, identity, self-worth, belonging, purpose, acceptance and self-esteem in people with dementia and how these can be threatened within care settings by staff behaviours. The course also explores the impact of health inequalities within the context of dementia care settings.

This course will focus on the experiences of complex patients and pathways within the NHS Trust and how they work with key external partners, and the importance of undertaking safeguarding impact assessments to identify what systems and processes are in place to address any variations and health inequalities that have safeguarding implications and how this fit in within the context of the NHS Long Term Plan.

This course looks at the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) in relation to achieving culture and systematic changes and the significant of this within the context of safeguarding and how practitioners should implement this in practice.
